Nautical Artwork Department

to decorate your home or office or to give as gifts to your boating friends
This is one way you can help support this site.  All of the color photographic images you see in the frames below are by Elliot MacDonald (aka Capn Larry).  A former professional photographer, once, in the distant past, owned, with his wife, Saltwater Suzi, a photo store complete with both black and white and color lab with both automated and custom services. He grew disenchanted with taking pictures for hire, photographing what he was paid to photograph.  Now, he and Suzi travel the waterways and photograph scenes which few people who do not travel by boat  are privileged to see.
As I sit here at my computer writing this, I can glance over to a shelf on our boat and see a copy of Chapman's Piloting and Seamanship, Brion Toss's Rigger's Apprentice and Nigel Calder's Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual.  These are all essential books for any serious sailor.  Ours are stained and the pages are dog-eared from years of use.   If those tomes aren't in his library, you've got your gift selection for yourself or your favorite Captain.  If not, any one of these others listed on this page would be greatly appreciated.

Ensigns, also called burgees, flags or pennants traditionally are used for identifying a vessel, signaling, identifying organizations or clubs to which the owner belongs, identifying the country of origin of the vessel, state of origin of the vessel, owner aboard, owner absent, diver down, and many 'just for fun' ensigns.  On this page we write about customs and protocols used when we fly our flags.   If you wish to purchase a burgee, just click on any of the shadowed images and you'll be sent off to another site which we feel offers a quality product at a reasonable price.

Fun Nautical T-shirts (and other stuff)

Great gifts for Captain and Crew or for Yourself.
Over at Cafe Press, Saltwater Suzi and Cap'n Larry have designed lots of t-shirts, travel mugs, aprons, and other stuff with nautical designs.  Some of the designs are funny, some serious.  See for yourself.   We don't like to ask for donations so if you are kind enough to purchase one of our many products it helps support the Frugal Mariner  and we thank you very much..

Nautical Calendars

Some of the same artwork you see in the Nautical Artwork Department is also on these calendars.  Everybody needs to know the date now and then, even if you're out cruising.  And these make great gifts at Christmas, too.
