Anchor toStay Put

How does this apply to Frugal Boating? Being comfortable that you can anchor well and stay  put  will
make  it  more  likely that you will stop staying in marinas every night while traveling.   This can save you LOTS of money.

Anchor to avoid Rock and Roll

When you've got the wind on the nose and the waves on the beam, you're in for an uncomfortable night.  Here's what to do to avoid that old rack and roll and get some sleep.

Anchor Bahamian Style

Sometimes you have to put out two anchors because it's a tight anchorage, or because you're in a narrow creek and you could swing into the shore.  The problem is the current reverses where you are and the boat spins around so many times that the next morning anchor rodes are twisted beyond belief.  You never want to anchor with one rode on the bow and one on the stern because you'll end up with the waves hitting the side and spilling your rum.  So what can you do?  Here's the solution.

How to...

Read the Weather

You listen to the marine weather forecast and they're predicting - in that nice, calm, soothing, computer generated voice, "Winds 8 to 10 knots out of the southeast.  Waves 1 to 2 feet."  You get out there on the bay or ocean and it's blowing 20 to 30 out of the north and the waves are breaking over the bow at maybe 6 feet.  What can you do to avoid this scenario?  You have to become more self-reliant - learn to read the weather signs.  This will help get you started.
Care for Your Canvas
Everything you should know about boat canvas.  There are many types of covers available for every boat.  You need to determine what you need for your boat.  First, do you race, cruise just on weekends and the occasional week, do you live aboard at the dock or do you cruise far and wide?
There are four reasons to insulate your boat.
                      ~To keep it warm
                       ~To keep it cool
                         ~To keep it dry
                           ~To keep it quiet
For whatever reason you need to insulate your boat you get the other three for free. If you want to insulate to keep your boat warm, you'll find it easier to simply untie the docklines and head south.  Keep going until the butter melts. If that isn't an option this year - here's an attractive and permanent method to do it .  It isn't easy - but it's worth it.
Everybody likes free stuff, if it's worth something.  Here you'll find some worthwhile stuff to have that you can get on the internet FOR FREE!!  And it's legal.
