Crossing Oceans
including equipment recommendations which the coastal cruiser may not be carrying, life rafts, sea anchors, jacklines, and so on as well as tips on heaving to (and how to practice before it becomes vital to know how) and other stuff you big-time ocean cruisers know about that we coastal cruisers haven't even thought of yet. |

Your own Ideas
Anything you would feel should be on the Frugal Mariner which we haven't thought of yet. Even if you don't contribute it, your ideas are appreciated and as we can, we'll add a page our readers suggest. |

Boat Recipes
We're working on a page which, at this writing, isn't published yet. Our idea is to have two sections - one for when you have guests on board, a little fancier - dishes which are tasty, present well, and yet are (relatively) easy to make with not too many pots and pans. And the second, a set of recipes for every day fare which are easy to prepare with minimum fuss and minimum number of ingredients but which are not boring. We further would like to accommodate with categories for the various sizes of galleys, from those with a single burner stove, no oven, no refrigerator, to galleys with three and four burner stoves and ovens, microwave, freezer, refrigerator. |

Cruising on Catamarans and Trawlers
We live and cruise on a sailboat. We would imagine there are problems (and solutions) about which we are not even aware concerning living aboard and cruising on Catamarans and Trawlers. |

Solar Panels
We don't have solar panels installed on our boat. Yet. If you have, a "how to" article would be greatly appreciated by those of us who haven't had them installed yet. |
What will you get in return for your contribution?
Several things - but, sorry, money isn't among them - we are, after all, the Frugal Mariner.
You will get the satisfaction of helping others. The cruising community is a 'pay-it-forward' kind of society. We help others with no expectation of remuneration, except lasting friendship. But we expect those we help to help others. Eventually, and without exception, it gets back around to us.
We will also give you links to your site(s) if you request (and hope you'll do the same for us.)
And, of course, your name will be on our site. So you'll get Fame (well, a little) but not Fortune.
And you will get our gratitude and the gratitude of your readers.
What format do we need your input in?
Pretty much anything you'd like to give us. We'll edit, proofread and convert to HTML. If you'd like, we'll send you a copy for your perusal and approval before we publish. Electronic would be preferred (whatever word processor you work with.) We can't do much with PDF files though.
Photos should be pertinent, well composed and technically good (focus and exposure). Though we can work with photoshop to help spruce a photo up a bit if it needs it. We prefer PNG or JPG format. Anything else except RAW we can work with. Minimum 72 DPI. And the bigger, the better. It's much easier to reduce in size to make a photo fit on the page than it is to try to enlarge it - they get real fuzzy and become unviewable.
How do we contact you to make a contribution?
E-mail us at CONTRIBUTIONS@FRUGAL-MARINER (DOT) COM.
A BIG THANK YOU! FOR EVEN CONSIDERING TO CONTRIBUTE.

Reader Contributions Needed
You cruisers who have been there, done it all and got the worn-out t-shirt, might be able to pick up a few tips, too. But, of course, we don't even pretend to know everything about living aboard a boat and cruising. Everybody has had different experiences, different talents, different desires.
So, from you more experienced cruisers, we would greatly appreciate any contributions to this site which may help others.
Below are listed some ideas with which we could use help. And feel free to offer anything else we may have missed.
Two pages in the Frugal Mariner have been written by cruising friends; "HOW WE CONVINCED OUR CAT TO GO CRUISING" by Sandy Blake and "Cruising with a Dog" by Harriet Hardy. We greatly appreciate the input because, though both Saltwater Suzi and Cap'n Larry love animals and have had many pets in the past, we have no experience with pets on a boat.
While we can't expect that the Frugal Mariner will ever be all things to all boaters, we hope and intend that it will continue growing. We have lived and cruised on our boat for many years, but we have not done everything and gone everywhere. We have learned how to repair, install or build many, many things on our boat because we are not rich enough to hire it done. But we have not done everything and therefore don't have experience in everything to pass along to other boaters.
